For true.  In 1991 Giles Peterson reissued a very special homegrown album on the Talkin’ Loud label which was to make history – Omar’s There’s Nothing Like This.  Beautiful, seminal, and fiercely independent.  This launched Omar‘s unique signature across the soul music scene, and tonight he is back at the Cambridge Junction performing new collaborative work with the jazz genius who is Courtney Pine.  Tickets on sale from the box office.

Fly No Filter’s fantastic lighting designer, Trui Malten has been working her magic for Caroline Wight’s new work Breath Control as part of Cambridge Science Festival.  Devised from research with the Breathe Easy Group at Addenbrookes Hospital, the piece will be performed by the first ever Breath Choir, in a combination of scientific, medical, musical, and philosophical perspectives based on our respiratory rates and patterns.  Catch all this under the glorious lighting by Trui, tomorrow night at Cambridge Junction.

DanceEast have two of their wonderful studios at the Jerwood DanceHouse in Ipswich available for use by professional artists, tomorrow 9.00am – 5.00pm.  Rather than have the studios sat empty, the DanceEast team would like to fill them with dance and movement.  If you would like more information, please contact: Helen.Dawson@danceeast.co.uk.  First come first served basis.

In April Cambridge is joining the international movement of Nasty Women, raising money and awareness for women’s causes.  The Congress for the Defence of Culture, Eliza Gluckman, and Seana Wilson are organising an exhibition in response to the state of the world today. They are calling for all artists who want to push back and be part of a global response to a time when division and intolerance are on the rise.  In the spirit of resistance, Nasty Women are asking for submissions of original artwork on A2 placards.  The deadline to submit has been extended to April 13th.  Exhibited artworks will be sold to raise money for Cambridge Women’s Aid, Corona House, and Cambridge Rape Crisis.  For more information please contact: seanawilson@hotmail.com

Tonight and tomorrow night, Fly No Filter and the JNR Sinstars will be returning to Queens College Cambridge for Sprung!  Curated by QCCDS with long standing artist in residence, Adele Thompson, we are very proud to be presenting our Hip Hop Theatre work alongside contemporary dance and dance for the camera.  Bboy Szymonster is back with his tight jeans and table for his self choreographed solo A Guide to Being.  He will be joined by the rest of the JNR Sinstars for a brand new prelude which also includes four magnificent action photographs of the Sinstars and Szymonster, by Chi Boogie.  Fly No Filter members Soopa Noodle and bgirl TrubLroC have created new work specifically for Sprung! with the ultra fabulous poet, Hannah Word3 Floyd, which considers the educational concept of “inclusion“.  Tickets available on the door of the Fitzpatrick Hall, show starts at 7.30pm

Hello March.  This week brings the start of spring with more daffodils and other floral inventions, some sun, and new Participate! programmes:

Hip Hop Tots Fresh As is a six week hip hop dance and movement project for 0 – 6yr olds every Tuesday, exploring the theme of being dope and looking fresh. There will be five weekly practical sessions with Bboy Soopa Noodle and guest JNR Sinstars, finishing with a theatre trip to Cambridge Junction to see Getting Dressed on the 6th April.

Foundation Fillers starts tomorrow and runs for five weeks suitable for 7yrs – adult.  Lead by Soopa Noodle (Sinstars) with assistance from Szymonster (JNR Sinstars) this is an entry level to the dance form of bboying and provides fillers for more advanced bboys who have gaps in their knowledge.

After a few mental weeks of being on the road, SIN Cru are now back in the office catching up and making plans.  We will be heading to Cambridge Junction this evening for some creative motivation from Joan Cleville Dance’s presentation of Plan B for Utopia.  We have heard rumours that there will be some balloons and even birthday cake, so we are looking forward to seeing how they work with them in contrast to Roni’s balloons and cake in Fly No Filter’s The Glorious Tour.  Our new Participate! projects will be starting up again over the next week, and after Soopa Noodle‘s fantastic Seven 2 Smoke win at Queen16 in Edinburgh, he is back in the studio with Flash Jordan preparing for a doubles battle at the start of March.  Watch this space for more info.
